India's R & D BPO Industry to grow by $8 bn.

According to recent reports, the
BPO market for information technology in India is all set to grow from the current $1.3 billion to over $8 billion by 2010.

According to a study by Ireland-based leading market research resource, Research & Markets, India is now well on the road to becoming the world's favourite destination. "But a low cost advantage does not spell sustainability. Moving away from BPO
and other low-end services, firms are now beginning to utilize the intellectual caliber that is available in India," the study said.

The highlights of this report were various aspects of the BPO India with special focus on the R&D BPO scenario in the IT, Telecom, Auto, Research and other sectors. The report examines the key areas impacting the growth of Indian BPO Industries, prospects for growth and key success factors. Success stories of some of the major companies like Texas Instruments, Microsoft, Cisco and GE, who have set up large BPO centers in India, were also taken into consideration.

In this study of successful R&D establishments, the success stories found were based on a strong foundation of success factors such as judicious selection of key person to run the R&D operations, champions of the R&D set up, human resource management, strong quality systems, communication skills, cultural issue, affiliation with educational institutions/ universities and clear roadmaps. The report is based on derived data as well as extensive interviews with key people at BPO India centers to understand reasons for success/failure and other attributes of the successful companies.
