Godrej wants 100% acquisition in the BPO sector
105-year old Godrej Industrial Group – an Indian corporate giant into home appliances, real estate, agro products, machine tools, personal care and other areas of commercial activities – is willing to explore the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector in India. The company has already initiated a new auxiliary named Godrej Global Solutions Ltd to boost its presence in the BPO segment in India. Earlier, the company had picked up stakes in CBay Systems (US) and Compas Connections (UK) to embark its presence. But now the company wants 100% acquisition in the BPO sector at a time when several US and European companies are looking forward for offshore outsourcing. Without many doubts, India is the favorite destination for them - where they are assured of quality at lower price.
Another major shift in the Indian BPO industry came from Computer Service Corporation (CSC) India who is finalizing terms to commence its fourth center from India. BPO manpower at CSC India thus would increase from 90 to around 500 people. The company already has two centers in Noida (near New Delhi) and a third one at Indore.
Reports says that the universal offshore BPO spending for 2003 is expected to reach $1.8 billion – an increase of 38% - and India is poised top grab 66% of the offshore BPO services at stake.
