BPO in India: Present Status
The BPO services industry in India saw revenue grow by 59% to $2.3 billion in the year to March 31, 2003. BPO in India has attracted a large number of entrepreneurs and investors who are yielding profits through low cost of the Indian labour to their customers in the U.S. and Europe.
In order to boost the growing fortune of the BPO industry in India the Indian Government is also working towards the implementation of data protection and confidentiality law. Rajeeva Ratna Shah, secretary to the Indian government's ministry of communications and Information Technology had quoted, “we are working on the draft of the bill, and it will most likely be on the lines of similar legislation on data privacy by the European Union". Presence of data privacy law in India is expected to lure more offshore outsourcing business to India and that will see data moving more freely.
Indian BPO industry is throttling with full pace. The future may see also see consolidations between companies as the BPO industry matures. The relatively newer BPO services industry surely has a promising forecast. Revenue from BPO and related services in India is predicted to grow to 54% next year to $3.6bn.
